BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address massive election rallies in Bengaluru and Chikkaballapura of Karnataka on Saturday.
According to state BJP sources, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a mega rally, covering Chikkballapur and Kolar Lok Sabha constituencies, at Chokkahalli village in Chikkaballapura district at 2 pm. At 4 pm, he will address a massive rally in the Palace Grounds of Bengaluru, covering Bangalore north, Bangalore south, Bangalore central, and Bangalore rural constituencies.
As per a seat sharing agreement between alliance partners BJP and JD(S), former minister K Sudhakar of the BJP has been fieled at Chikkballapur, while the Kolar seat went to JD(S) candidate M Mallesh Babu. Sudhakar and Mallesh Babu will take on Raksha Ramaiah and K V Gowtham of the Congress.
Bengaluru city is currently a BJP bastion as of the four seats Bangalore north, south, and central are represented MPs belong to the saffron party.
Of the four seats in Bengaluru, Bangalore north, south, and central have remained BJP bastions. Bangalore Rural, a stronghold of the Congress, is represented by D K Suresh, brother of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
Sitting MPs Tejasvi Surya and P C Mohan continued to be the BJP candidates for Bangalore South and Central constituencies respectively.
Surya and Mohan will take on Soumya Reddy and Mansoor Ali Khan of the Congress, respectively. The BJP has fielded Shobha Karandlaje, MoS (agriculture) who was moved from Udupi-Chikmagalur, from the Bangalore North seat this election. Rajeev Gowda of the Congress is her rival candidate. The alliance partners have fielded Deve Gowda’s son-in-law and eminent cardiologist Dr C N Manjunath on a BJP ticket from the Bangalore rural constituency. He is contesting against Congress’ D K Suresh.
Karnataka to go for polls on April 26, May 7
The Lok Sabha elections will be held in two phases in Karnataka, dividing it into north and south. The 14 seats—Udupi Chikamagaluru, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikkballapur, and Kolar—of the southern region will go for polls on April 26. The polling will be held in the Chikkodi, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar, Koppal, Bellary, Haveri, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Davanagere, and Shimoga seats of the northern part on May 7.
