Indian Maritime University (IMU), East Coast Road, Semmencherry, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has invited applications for admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai Port, Navi Mumbai, and Visakhapatnam campuses of IMU for the 2024–25 academic year.
Programmes offered and campuses
Undergraduate programmes:
- 4-year B Tech (Marine Engineering): Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai Port campuses
- 4-year B.Tech. (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering): Visakhapatnam campus
* 4-year B.Tech. (Naval Architecture and Ship Building): Visakhapatnam Campus - 3-year B.Sc. (Nautical Science): Chennai, Kochi, and Navi Mumbai campuses
- 3-year apprenticeship embedded BBA (Maritime Logistics) in collaboration with LSC-Viakhapatnam campus
- 3-year BBA (Logistics, Retailing, and E-Commerce): Chennai and Kochi campuses
- 3-year B.Sc. (ship building and repair) at the College of Ship Technology, Palakkad (affiliated institute).
Diploma programmes:
- 1-year Diploma in Nautical Science, Chennai and Navi Mumbai campuses
- 1-Year Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engineering, Mumbai Port Campus.
PG programmes:
- 2-year MBA (International Transportation & Logistics Management): Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam campuses
- 2-year (Port and Shipping Management): Chennai and Kochi campuses
- 2-year M.Tech (Marine Technology): Kolkata campus
- 2-year M.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering): Visakhapatnam campus

Eligibility for admission to various programmes is given in the Prospectus 2024 on https://www.imu.edu.in/
Admission process
Admissions to (i) B.Tech and M.Tech programmes (ii) B.Sc. Nautical Science and DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) will be made through IMU-CET and held on April 8, 2024. There is no entrance examination for the B.Sc. Ship Building and Repair programme and admissions are based on class 12th marks. Admission to BBA will be based on CUET (UG) /12th grade marks. Admission to the MBA Programme will be based on will be based on IMU-CET rank, CAT, MAT, and CMAT marks through counseling.
Registration for IMU CET closes at https://www.imu.edu.in/ on May 5, 2024, except for BBA programmes. Registration closing date for MBA is June 30, 2024.
The application fee for registration for BBA is Rs 200 (Rs 140 for SC/ST candidates) and Rs 1,000 (Rs 700 for SC/ST candidates) for all other UG and PG programmes. IMU-CET rank is compulsory for admission to DGS approved programmes (B.Tech. (ME), B.Sc. (NS) and DNS) in affiliated/non-affiliated institutes. Those desirous of taking admissions to these programmes need to register in the IMU-CET registration portal to take IMU-CET 2024 and secure ranks. After securing IMU-CET ranks, candidates need to approach affiliated or non-affiliated institutes for admissions as per their admission mechanism.
Candidates who aspire to take admissions to IMU campuses only need to register in IMU’s counselling portal, which will be open after the release of the IMU-CET rank list.
