JD(S) to suspend Prajwal Revanna facing probe over alleged sexual abuse of women: H D Kumaraswamy

BENGALURU: In view of allegations of his sexual abuse of several women, JD(S) has decided to suspend Prajwal Revanna from the party, said former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday.

Prajwal is Kumaraswamy’s nephew and former prime minister Deve Gowda’s grandson. He is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha election from Hassan constituency, which went to the polls in the first phase on April 26.

Speaking to the media, he said: “A decision in this regard has already been taken, and it is to be recommended at the core committee meeting to be held in Hubballi tomorrow. As he (Prajwal) is a Member of Parliament, it has to be done from Delhi. So I have requested Deve Gowda, JD(S) national president and former PM. Neither he (Gowda) nor I were aware of this issue.”

“Some issues have come out. On the basis of that, it was decided yesterday itself to suspend him.. But many were in a hurry,” he said, indirectly hinting at the Congress.

Prajwal (33) is the son of H D Revanna, the elder son of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda. H D Revanna is an MLA and former minister.

Kumaraswamy stressed the need for extending the investigation beyond the allegations against Prajwal to include an inquiry into the origins of the pen drives containing the videos and the individuals responsible for their dissemination.

Though there are no direct accusations against Prajwal Revanna so far, Kumaraswamy said if the charges are proven true, appropriate legal consequences must follow without compromise.

The explicit video clips allegedly depicting Prajwal Revanna engaging in sexual abuse with multiple women are circulating widely in the Hassan region. In response to the scandal, the government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.

Despite the developments, Kumaraswamy expressed confidence that the NDA candidate (Prajwal) will win in Hassan with a thumping majority.

Explicit video clips allegedly depicting Prajwal Revanna engaging in sexual abuse with multiple women are widely circulated in the Hassan region, from where Prajwal was contesting the elections. The Congress government in the state has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.
