Nor’Wester-triggered heavy rain continues to pound parts of Odisha, yellow warning in 4 districts

BHUBANESWAR: Nor’Wester-triggered heavy rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds continued to lash the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on Sunday too.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the capital city of Bhubaneswar received 76.8 mm of rainfall on Saturday night, the highest amount of rainfall received this year, followed by Paradip (51.4 mm) and Puri (37.8 mm), while Balasore and Chandbali recorded 35mm and 32 mm of rainfall, respectively.

The department has issued a warning that the thunderstorm is expected to persist until Wednesday. It also issued a yellow warning for severe rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts on Sunday. An alert has been issued to another 15 districts about the possibility of lightning and strong winds reaching a speed of 30–50 kilometers per hour.
