CCRAS unveils ‘PRAGATI-2024’ to boost research, innovation in Ayurveda

DELHI: The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of AYUSH, launched ‘PRAGATI 2024” (Pharma Research in AyurGyan and Techno Innovation) here on Tuesday. This initiative presents a valuable prospect for collaborative research in the field of Ayurveda.

The interactive meeting held on the occasion aimed at delving into potential research prospects and enhancing cooperation between CCRAS and the Ayurveda pharmaceutical sector.

During this event, Secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, underscored the significant role of the industry in the advancement of Ayurveda. He emphasized the immense possibilities for industries to expand and progress within the sector, acknowledging that the arrival of fresh professionals and startups offers remarkable prospects for growth.

At PRAGATI-2024, Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, the Director General of CCRAS, emphasized the increasing popularity of AYUSH products, specifically Ayurveda, in India and across the globe. 

“CCRAS aims to engage with all stakeholders, which is why we have initiated scholarship programmes to emphasize the significance of research to students. Our efforts include various programmes designed to connect with teachers and students through research initiatives and scholarships,” he said.

Dr. Koustubha Upadhaya, Advisor (Ayurveda), Ministry of AYUSH, provided a thought-provoking speech at PRAGATI-2024, highlighting the importance of collaboration between research and industry to ensure that their collective endeavors result in societal benefits.

He stressed that the quality of AYUSH products lies in thorough research, underscoring the significance of creating research-driven, top-notch, secure, and efficient Ayurvedic products. Additionally, the event witnessed the unveiling of the most recent newsletter from CCRAS and the calendar of activities for 2024–25.

Dr. N Srikanth, the Deputy Director General of CCRAS, emphasized the exceptional potential for collaboration between CCRAS and the industry that PRAGATI-2024 offers. He highlighted the invaluable opportunity for research and collaboration that this platform provides, showcasing the immense potential of the Ayurveda and herbal industries. Additionally, he acknowledged the significant share that India holds in this sector.

The conference saw a strong turnout of CEOs, managing directors, directors, and heads of research units from 37 pharmaceutical companies. In addition, Kavita Garg, the joint secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH, along with other senior officials from the ministry, graced the event, according to an AYUSH Ministry statement.
