BENGALURU: A sex scandal allegedly involving MP and JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna rocked Karnataka ahead of the third phase of Lok Sabha polls. The Congress government in the state has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the obscene video case.
Prajwal filed a police complaint on Sunday, claiming that the videos that are circulating are doctored and aimed at tarnishing his image ahead of the polls.
Prajwal Revanna, Hassan MP, is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.
Reacting to the incident on Saturday night, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated in an X post: “The government has decided to form a special investigation team in connection with Prajwal Revanna’s obscene video case.”
“Obscene video clips are circulating in Hassan district, and it appears that women have been sexually assaulted. In this backdrop, the Women’s Commission chairperson (Dr Nagalakshmi Chowdhary) had written a letter to the government to conduct an SIT investigation into the case. This decision has been taken in response to their request,” he added.
Cong demands Revanna’s arrest
The Congress workers staged a protest in various parts of the state on Sunday, demanding the immediate arrest of Revanna.
We welcome the SIT probe: JD(S) leader Saravana
Reacting to the formation of the SIT by the Siddaramaiah government, JD(S) leader T A Saravana said that they welcome the probe. “We welcome the SIT investigation. Our supremo H D Deve Gowda, leader H D Kumaraswamy, and other party office-bearers will jointly take a decision on this,” he said.
BJP distances itself from controversy
Meanwhile, the state BJP, which entered into an alliance with the JD(S) after later severed its ties with the Congress in September last year, is trying to distance itself from the controversy.
Chief spokesperson of the state BJP, S Prakash, said: “We, as a party, have nothing to do with the videos, and neither do we have any comments to make on the SIT probe announced by the state government into the alleged sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna.”
Prajwal Revanna, who was the NDA candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency which went to polls on April 26, has reportedly left for Germany.
