‘Clips 4-5 years old’: H D Revanna terms sex scandal involving his son Prajwal a conspiracy

HASSAN: Breaking his silence on the sex scandal controversy involving his son and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, Janata Dal (Secular) leader and Karnataka MLA H D Revanna on Monday said: “The obscene videos are 4-5 years old, and I know what kind of conspiracy is going on.”

A case was filed on Sunday against Prajwal and his father by their household help, accusing them of sexually harassing her.

“I know what kind of conspiracy is going on. I am not someone who will get scared and run away. They have released something that was 4-5 years old,” H D Revanna, Prajwal’s father, told the media.

A massive controversy broke out after multiple purported sex videos of Prajwal Revanna emerged last week, just two days before the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26.

Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of JD(S) chief and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, has, however, denied the allegations. He filed a complaint, claiming that the circulated videos were doctored.

Prajwal (33) was the NDA candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to the polls in the first phase on April 26. The JD(S), which was in the Congress-led UPA fold in the 2019 parliamentary elections, joined the BJP-led NDA in September 2023.

After the videos led to a massive row, the Karnataka government announced a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe and filed an FIR. Following this, Prajwal reportedly left for Frankfurt, Germany.

However, HD Revanna said: “Prajwal was anyway going to go abroad, and he didn’t know an FIR was going to be filed against him.”

On JD(S) MLA demanding his son’s expulsion from the party, HD Revanna said: “Expelling him from the party is left to the party high command.”

“Let the state government investigate. For the last 40 years under Congress, we have faced several investigations, be it CID or SIT,” he said.

Meanwhile, JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said: “It’s an issue of the Revanna family. We have nothing to do with it.”

Though he questioned the timing of the release of the videos, he said: “If anyone is found to be involved in any wrongdoing, the person will have to be punished as per the law of the land.”
