Kashmiri Pandits celebrate Vital Shishti in Noida

Vital Shishti being celebrated at Kashyap Community Centre in Noida on Tuesday

NOIDA (UP): Vital Shishti, commonly called Vital Shyeyam, was celebrated with pomp and giety at the Kashyap Community Centre at Sector 34 here on Tuesday.

A large number of devotees, particularly followers from Rainawari in Kashmir, took part in the celebrations.

Yellow rice and Aloo Paneer were offered as prashad to the devotees after the pooja rituals. Ravider Pandita, who headed the rituals, sought blessings for the whole community, which celebrated the Vital Shishti.

Vital Bhairav Temple

Vital Bhairva, a 400-year-old temple at Motiyar in Rainawari, Srinagar, is believed to be one of the eight Bhairvas guarding Kashmir. This historic religious shrine was demolished, and the entire land attached to the temple was sold to a person hailing from Pampore by the Dharmarth Trust.

The temple was in the news in 2012 after a conglomeration of several community organisations demanded a CBI probe into the “illegal” sale of the temple land. It was soon reclaimed by devotees led by Ravinder Pandita, founder of the Save Dharda Committee, Kashmir. This incident led to agitation in the area.

Later, a group of Kashmiri Pandits started the restoration of the temple after remaining unattended for more than 22 years due to militancy. They rebuilt the temple walls, built a compound wall around the shrine precincts, and secured it by fitting a gate.
