BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a red alert in six districts of Karnataka, denoting a severe heat wave.
Quoting SHAR-ISRO as its source, KSNDMC stated the temperatures are likely to cross 46 degrees Celsius.
Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Bagalkote, Haveri, and Koppal districts will see temperatures ranging from 40 to 46 degrees Celsius between May 1 and May 9. April 30, 2024, recorded the highest temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius compared to the maximum temperature recorded in Karnataka in the past seven years between 2017 and 2024, it added.
The maximum temperatures are likely to come down by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across the state from May 7, KSNDMC added.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department, Bengaluru, pointed out in its statement that the trough/wind discontinuity from southeast Madhya Pradesh to South Interior Karnataka (SIK) across Vidarbha, Marathawada, and North Interior Karnataka (NIK) extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.
The temperatures are likely to be around 40 to 46 degrees Celsius in parts of NIK districts such as Raichur, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Ballari, and Vijayapura districts until May 6.
The other districts in NIK, most of the districts in SIK, and Dakshina Kannada district are likely to experience a maximum temperature between 40 and 44 degrees Celsius.
Parts of Udupi, Hassan, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and parts of Uttara Kannada district are likely to experience between 33 and 40 degrees Celsius until May 6, according to the Centre.
