NEW DELHI: The Central Government has announced its decision to offer support to an additional three crore rural and urban households for building houses in order to address the housing requirements resulting from the rise in the number of eligible families.
A decision in this regard was taken in the first cabinet meeting of the newly-formed NDA government held in New Delhi on Monday.
The Centre has been implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) since 2015 to provide assistance to eligible rural and urban households for the construction of houses with basic amenities. Under the scheme, 4.21 crore houses have been constructed in the last 10 years.
The houses built under the scheme are equipped with essential facilities such as household toilets, LPG connections, electricity connections, operational household tap connections, and more, achieved through collaboration with various schemes of both the Central Government and State Governments.
