Parathas are a popular choice for many in India, but have you ever seen paratha being fried in diesel? A video that went viral online depicting the frying of a popular Indian delicacy ‘paratha’ in recycled oil, sparked a wave of anger and disbelief.
In the video, a man from a Chandigarh dhaba can be seen rolling out the dough and stuffing it with potato mix first and then baking it in a pan. After that, he pours loads of oil on the paratha, claiming that the oil he uses to ‘fry’ parathas is diesel.
The assertion raised concerns among online users, prompting them to tag the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “True recipe for cancer (petrol diesel wala paratha) Where are we heading?” The video also reveals the location where this diesel-fried paratha is prepared: Bablu Dhaba in Chandigarh.

At the beginning of the video, the individual operating the camera can be heard expressing surprise upon observing the use of recycled oil in the making of the paratha.
In the start of the video, the person behind the camera can be heard expressing astonishment upon witnessing the use of recycled oil for the preparation of the paratha. The people consuming it were overheard commenting “Esko khakr kachori ka taste aata hai “This has a flavor reminiscent of kachori.”
